KnowledgeStar™ changes the way people approach and use machinery. It eliminates the current industrial training model and replaces it with automatic, on-the-job, just-in-time performance support provided exactly when and where it’s needed.
The KnowledgeStar™ app is downloaded from the app store onto an iPhone or iPad. The app is the key to the KnowledgeStar™ program. The app links a proximity beacon, that can be attached to any machine, to the Internet so that needed information can be readily accessed on a mobile device.
Here is the story behind KnowledgStar™ in David Grebow’s own words:
Over 25 years ago I developed training for IBM’s ThinkPad laptop manufacturing operations. I remember after one important class, walking onto the plant floor and watching employees – who had done really well in the classroom – looking for help to remember what I thought they had learned. From safety to operations, maintenance to compliance, they had forgotten most of what I had so carefully explained in class. My lesson was that the training, no matter how creative or compelling, did not stick. Forgetting left employees without the skills to safely and effectively do their jobs.
I was deeply upset and determined to change the situation. I wanted to find a better way. I began looking for a solution and realized that the existing technology could not support what I envisioned as successful on-the-job, just-in-time performance support program.
Fast forward to today. Proximity beacons, smart devices and information in the cloud have made performance support automatic, two-way and timely. This new technology provides the critical compliment to the traditional classroom-based formal training approach.
We are changing the way people perform on the manufacturing floor by replacing the current approach to training with KnowledgeStar™ performance support exactly when and where it’s needed. Our goal is to compliment classroom training with a new approach to doing a job. Using state-of-the-art technology we link people and the machines they use to the information they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.
We are replacing 100 years of traditional training with a new way to learn. Connecting people to machinery with proximity beacons, smart devices and the Internet. Automatically providing the knowledge and know-how to safely and effectively get the job done.
